Sunday's Best: Animal Lovers plus Chicago edition

A post dedicated to furry little things and the city of Chicago seems a bit random but they are two things that have been on my mind lately. First, I am considering adopting a little puppy from a local organization that rescues dogs, cats and other animals (Rescate Animal). However, since I am not sure of how long I will stay in Costa Rica, I am pondering the option of being a "host mom". Basically, you keep an animal until they find him a permanent family (usually for 1 to 3 months). Have any of you ever tried this? If so, how did you like the experience? I would love to hear your opinions!

Now here are some animal-related finds from this week:

- If you are considering becoming a pet owner this website is a great place to find local shelters and adoption clinics.
- NPR bring a fascinating story on service animals, which you can find here. It is really amazing the power that dogs have to treat people with disabilities.
-And if you want to bring some of the animal kingdom to your house, in a way that requires much less commitment, these candle holders from Anthropologie are sure to cheer up any old space.

And as far as the Chicago portion of the post goes... well I have just returned from a trip there, my first time in the city, and I must say I really feel for it! A city-love has not hit me this hard in a long time. But Chicago with its beautiful architecture, green spaces, lake views, great nightlife and relaxed atmosphere kinda stole my heart away. So cheers to Chicago (and the Bulls!) and let me share a few of my favorite finds, and pictures, from the windy city:

Piece serves some of the most delicious pizza I have ever had! Their white pizza might be the best white pizza I have ever eaten outside of Italy. For reals.
- And just around the corner from Piece is a little gem of a wine store: Eno a Mano. They have an amazing selection of wines and the friendliest staff ever (unlike many wine stores where the people are so uppity and wine-snobby!)
- One of the nights we went out to the Green Mill, a real Chicaco institution and one of Al Capone's old hang out places. There are even some bullets on the wall from the prohibition era!
- Of course, being state-side at a super cool city, means doing some major shopping. And Time Out magazine has the Top 10 Best Vintage stores, there are some great finds in there.

Here are some of the pictures I took during my stay. Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

xoxo,
Pilar

  4. Chicago must have gotten much nicer since I've been there or I just went to all of the wrong places! And I love that you're wanting to adopt. As for the pet-sitting, I know I'd never be able to do it because I'd fall in love with the animal after a few days!
